Why YouTube is my all-time favorite product
It’s Ubiquitous
For anything you want — be it to learn something, to sell something, to learn to sell something; to cook something, to make anything new; to repair something, to teach something— you reach out to YouTube. YouTube is universal with an estimated penetration of ~45% Worldwide. Globally, it is the second most visited website after Google.com. It’s like a friend you go to for anything and everything — after Google. It has a varied language support system; in that, it’s available in a variety of languages for easy penetration among the local population who might not necessarily be fluent in English. And, it’s free.
It’s Neat
Its User-Interface is simple. Anybody finds it easy to use. YouTube uses an advanced machine learning algorithm to bump-up content per the user’s recent browsing history. It puts its users at its forefront in everything. Any non-tech person with zero to minimal Technical background finds it extremely easy to use. If you have been paying attention to the User-Interface closely, they have made a recent feature update. Guess what? The comments! The comments’ section has been pushed to a single-line window for toggle to keep the focus on Video streaming — which is YouTube’s mainstay.
It’s Democratic
It has content generated by both regular users and businesses. It hosts international pop-stars like Taylor Swift who report earnings of ~ 170M $ from Youtube Streaming, to local bar musicians who want to carve-out a niche for themselves. The system is such that uploading content, too, is effortless.
It’s Comforting
Have you ever typed-in a lyric of a song on Youtube, and wham pops-up the music you were requesting. It’s so seamless, thanks to its large search database — it quickly toggles and matches the lyrics of the song to the song itself. It’s like humming a song to a friend, and the friend sings the song back at you — and finishes it up by providing a few more specific details.
It’s Informative
Any new movie gets released, any new song features, any new product launches, any trending topic in your vicinity and country — you quickly get a hang of it on YouTube. Movie-Marketers judge the potential of a new release based on the hits of a movies’ / series’ trailer. For example, Netflix India knows with reliable proxies based on Social Media mentions and YouTube Views on its trailers and content hosted by Netflix that Sacred Games might, very well, be the driver in terms of Customer acquisition and subscription renewals resulting in significant Downstream impact to Netflix’s overall revenues from India.
It’s Versatile
I’m not a great cook. I can cook basic stuff, but during the quarantine I was helpless . I’d to fend for myself. And, guess where I went to for learning quick and easy recipes — YouTube. From Kabitha’s Kitchen, BongEats, Dindigul Food Court to Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana — I was able to cook-up a variety of dishes. You can find a plethora of Food channels that teach you stuff as per your style and needs. And I’ve become extremely confident of my cooking skills in a matter of a couple of months. All Thanks to YouTube.
In Summary, YouTube is a great product not just because of its versatility but also due to its effortless User-Interface that anybody can find content that they can relate to and want to watch. No wonder, the retention, the streaming hours, the Daily Active Users share of Monthly Active Users, and the repeat usage is sky-high for Youtube vis-à-vis everything else.
